Greetings ...
Another month has gone by and we are glad to announce that the Design InSight newsletter has been a huge success. We've received emails and calls from many of you, and we are extremely appreciative of your kind words and feedback. Since this newsletter will be constantly evolving, we would like to hear from you about what topics you would like to see addressed, what you like about the newsletter, what you dislike, etc. This will help us make the Design InSight newsletter more relevant and meaningful in the future. |

Objective:
To take a site that has been in development for over a year and see it through to completion, while re-designing the Lounge and e-commerce experience so that it was more true to the original design.
Solution: By organizing the project and through open communication with the programming team and client, we were able to finally bring PriscillaPresley.com online. Since it's launch, a community of fans has been created through the Forum, Guest Book, and Chat features. We are also very proud of the Mystique Boutique and how the products are displayed in a very classic way, utilizing beautiful product photography and a clean, simple layout.

Last month, we talked about Proximity which is one of the 4 design principles that have evolved from the Gestalt principles of form perception. Over the next three months, we will explore additional design principles including contrast, repetition, and alignment, and how they can be used in design.
Repetition
Closely related to harmony, this term refers to a way of combining elements of art so that the same elements are used over and over again. Thus, a certain color or shape might be used several times in the same picture. Repetition also can contribute to movement and rhythm in a work of art.
In design, repetition creates visual consistency in page designs, such as using the same style of headlines or repeating the same basic layout from one page to another.
In web design, repetition and consistency are crucial. By creating a navigational pattern, users will quickly "learn" how the site works on the very first page, and based on that knowledge, they will be able to easily navigate the rest of the site. This makes websites easy to use while being visually appealing. |

CSS (Cascading Style Sheet)
A feature of HTML developed by the W3C (World Wide Web Consortium).
Cascading Style Sheets (CSS) are a simple mechanism for adding style to Web documents. CSS can add a lot of value to a website with one of it's main assets being the ability to change color, size, and style of fonts across an entire website. CSS is also being used more and more frequently to develop tableless pages. |

Question:
How can I drive more traffic to my website?
Answer:
Ok, so you've had a website built and put online. It's beautiful, easy-to-use, and you love it! So, what happened? The phone isn't ringing and you're starting to feel like that gorgeous website was a gigantic waste of money.
This is a typical response from people that have had websites created for them. The question we hear most often from our clients is "How do I get more traffic to my website?"
Firstly, building a website is not unlike having business cards printed; they can be beautifully designed, glossy and wonderful, but if you don't hand them out, you won't get any new business from them. So how can you "hand out" your website?
The most obvious way is advertising. Advertising is crucial to any business. Unless people know about your business and what you do, no one will ever buy from you. So let's talk about some internet advertising options and what they'll do for your website traffic, and eventually, your income ... |
